SCMW! offers services and support for those who are either facing a layoff, or have experienced one. Regardless of a jobseeker's situation, education level, experience, and skill level, the Service Center staff assist in overcoming barriers to employment.
If you've been laid off
No-cost, specialized activities and career counseling are available, as well as training and workshops that can help a jobseeker develop the materials and skills necessary to reenter the workforce.
We work with local employers to find employment opportunities for every type of jobseeker. Our Business Services Manager recruit employers for Career Fairs, Employer of the Day and hiring and training opportunities. Information and applications are available in all three service centers.
We work with jobseekers to improve their job search, resume writing and interviewing skills in order to help them find employment. We supply referrals for assessments, GED or High School Diploma preparation, community resources such as budgeting, family counseling, or childcare and other supportive services that may be necessary.
We offer training opportunities to jobseekers that need to upgrade their skills through vocational education in order to find employment. Training can be On-the-Job (OJT) with a local employer leading to a certificate, or in a classroom setting with an Individual Training Account leading to a degree, license or certification.
We provide eighteen months of follow up services to ensure the customer can maintain employment, is receiving wages and benefits as planned and is self sufficient.
If you have a disability that is preventing you from finding employment, South Central Michigan Works! wants to help. By partnering with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) we can provide a wide variety of opportunities to the disabled population.
